Afterschool Service Corps formed for Middle and High School Students

The Alameda Collaborative for Children, Youth & Their Families recently announced plans for the Alameda Afterschool Service Corps (ASC) to give middle and high school students meaningful ways to get involved in their community. The Afterschool Service Corps will match youth volunteers with afterschool programs that need their help to engage younger students in homework, recreation, sports and creative arts activities. ASC volunteers will serve as important role models for younger children, while providing critical support to Alameda's afterschool programs.

ASC volunteers will receive special training, including elements of the "I Can Read" program and conflict mediation skills, prior to beginning their commitment. The agencies currently participating are:

  • Girls Inc.
  • Alameda LEAPS Programs
  • Alameda Point Collaborative Children & Youth Services
  • HOME Sweet Home Preschool
  • Alameda Recreation & Parks
  • McCullum Youth Court
  • Rhythmix Cultural Works Performing Arts Center

Agencies are invited to apply and indicate their interest by completing the Agency Application.

For more information and student and agency applications, the forms are available in pdf format for downloading (see listing below).
